The 5th round of the European Individual Chess Championship 2016 in Gjakova was more peacefuly than the previous ones, as most of the games didn’t finish with the decisive result.
This gave the opportunity to David Navara (CZE 2735) and Ivan Saric (CRO 2650) to emerge and join the leaders Wojtaszek, Inarkiev and Jobava with 4.5 points.
In the top clash on the first board Ernesto Inarkiev (RUS 2686) drew with Radoslaw Wojtaszek (POL 2722), while on the second board Nikita Vitiugov (RUS 2721) drew with Baadur Jobava (GEO 2661).
The top seed David Navara won a nice game against Sergey Zhigalko (BLR 2647) with Black pieces in Caro-Kann, while Ivan Saric defeated Vladislav Kovalev (BLR 2562) also with Black.
Five players lead with 4.5 points – Wojtaszek, Jobava, Inarkiev, Saric and Navara, followed by nine players with half a point behind.
The top pairings of the 6th round are:
Wojtaszek vs Navara, Jobava vs Inarkiev, I. Saric vs Matlakov, Berkes vs Vitiugov, Nabaty vs Fressinet, Cheparinov vs Goganov, Parligras vs Kovalenko, etc.
Round 6 is played today from 3.30 pm, while Wednesday 18th May is a rest day.
