FIDE Chess.com Grand Swiss 2021 and the first edition of the FIDE Chess.com Women’s Grand Swiss 2021 open today in Riga, Latvia.
Both tournaments are part of the qualifications for the 2021-23 World Championship cycle, with the top two players in the open event qualifying for the 2022 Candidates Tournament and the following six securing spots in the Grand Prix. The Winner of the Women’s Grand Swiss will qualify directly for the Women Candidates 2022 and four best players will qualify for the next year’s Women’s Grand Prix.
The list of players in the FIDE Chess.com Grand Swiss 2021 is expanded for 114 players, and the list of participants can be found here. The battlefield is led by Caruana Fabiano (USA, 2800), Aronian Levon (ARM, 2782), Firouzja Alireza (FRA, 2770), Vachier-Lagrave Maxime (FRA, 2763), Vitiugov Nikita (RUS, 2727) and other top World Grandmasters.
The event will be played in Swiss system, 11 rounds, with a total prize fund of 425.000$.
50 players will participate in the FIDE Chess.com Women’s Grand Swiss 2021, and the top seeds are: Muzychuk Mariya (UKR, 2536), Dzagnidze Nana (GEO, 2524), Kosteniuk Alexandra (RUS, 2518), Harika Dronavalli (IND, 2511) and Shuvalova Polina (RUS, 2509). Full list of players can be found here.
With a total prize fund of 125.000$, the event will be played in 11 rounds, Swiss system.
The venue of the events will be Hanzas Parsons venue for culture, music and art.

Some of the players have already arrived to Riga, expecting the Opening ceremony which will take place today, along with the technical meeting. The first round of the events starts tomorrow, from 13:00 CET.
