European Senior Chess Championship 2021 kicks off today in Budoni, Sardinia, Italy.
The event is played within two age categories: 50+ and 65+ with Open and Women’s results evaluated separately. Women’s both age categories will be merged with Open sections with separate prizes.
36 players from 17 European federations registered for 50+ section of the European Senior Chess Championship. The battlefield is led by: GM Bischoff Klaus (GER, 2495), IM Bellia Fabrizio (ITA, 2431), IM Krizsany Laszlo (HUN, 2397), IM Van Der Werf Mark (NED, 2393) and FM Peist Jeurgen (GER, 2314). Among the Women players are: WIM Krasenkova Ilena (RUS, 2178), IM Borsuk Angela (ISR, 2111), WIM Lauterbach Ingrid (ENG, 2038) and others.

29 players coming from 14 countries will participate in the European Senior Chess Championship 50+ event, and the top seeds are: IM Birnboim Nathan (ISR, 2375), IM Renman Nils-Gustaf (SWE, 2311), FM Buchal Stephan (GER, 2263), IM Lederman Leon (ISR, 2238), and FM Chapman Terry P D (ENG, 2236). WIM Wagner-Michel Annett (GER, 2011) and WFM Kierzek Mira (GER, 2019) will lead the battle for Women prizes.

The event will be opened today in Janna&Sole Hotel Resort (official playing venue), shortly before the start of the first round. First round will start at 15:00 CET, and games can be followed live through the official website of the event.

The total prize fund of the event is 6.500 EUR. The top 3 players from each category of the European Senior Championship 2021 will qualify with personal rights (free board and lodging) to the World Senior Championship 2022 or 2023 according to FIDE decisions.
