The European Individual Chess Championship 2022 kicked off yesterday in Terme Catez, Slovenia.
ECU President Mr. Zurab Azmaiparashvili and President of Slovenian Chess Federation Mr. Milan Brglez addressed the players shortly before the start of the first round, wished them luck and a joyful stay in Slovenia. ECU President then made a first ceremonial move on the first board and the games have started.

The first round ended with more than 120 games finishing with decisive results and 29 draws. Some of the favorites didn’t manage to get the full point, and among them are: Anton Guijarro David (ESP, 2694) who drew against Rozen Eytan (ISR, 2398), Kryvoruchko Yuriy (UKR, 2683) with draw against Golubovic Boris (CRO, 2393), Grandelius Nils (SWE, 2663) played a draw against Ohanyan Emin (ARM, 2379)…

The opening ceremony took place in the beautiful venue of Brezice Castle on Saturday evening.
The ECU president Mr. Zurab Azmaiparashvili, President of Slovenian Chess Federation Mr. Milan Brglez, the President of Slovanian National Assembly Mr. Igor Zorcic and deputy mayor of the Municipality of Brezice Mr. Bogdan Palovsnik addressed the players and distinguished guests.
With 35 players and 40 persons in total, the Ukrainian delegation is the biggest at the European Individual Chess Championship 2022. ECU Secretary General Mr. Theodoros Tsorbatzoglou expressed his happiness to see Ukrainian players are safe.
The 2nd round of the event starts today from 15:00 CEST and all the games are live broadcasted with commentaries by GM Alojzije Jankovic and the stream can be followed live through the official website of the event or through the event’s YouTube channel.
