The 2023 IBCA European Team Chess Championship for the Blind and Visually Impaired took place from 19-30 April in Genova, Italy.
With the participation of 14 federations, the event was played in 9 rounds, swiss system, with players using specialized Braille chess boards, talking chess clocks and voice recording equipment.
Team Serbia (FM Pavle Dimic, CM Damjan Jandric, Stefan Janjic, Mile Bjelanovic, FM Avram Sretko, Stefan Mitrovic; captain Nikola Ivanovic) clinched gold medal with 15 match points, scoring 6 victories and 3 draws.
Polish team (GM Marcin Tazbir, IM Jacek Stachanczyk, IM Piotr Dukaczewski. Ryszard Suder, Michal Wolanski, Andrzej Migala; captain Janocz Zyla) won silver with the score of 14 match points, 6 victories, 2 draws and 1 loss.
Teams of Ukraine and Spain tied for the third place scoring 13 match points, each, but Team Ukraine (Vladyslav Kolpakov, Igor Shepelev, WIM Lubov Zsiltzova-Lisenko, Ivan Yatsishin; captain Oleksandr Frantsuzov) came third thanks to better score in the game points – 23.
