Mitropa Chess Cup 2022 opened in Corti

The Mitropa Chess Cup 2022 opened yesterday in Corti, France, and takes place from 27th April – 8th May in the Sports complex (COSEC) of Corti under the ECU auspices.

Teams of Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Slovakia, Slovenia and Switzerland compete in 9 rounds within two sections: Open and Women.

The open section teams are: Czech Republic, Slovakia, Italy, France, Hungary, Germany, Austria, Corsica (organisers team) and Switzerland. 44 players represent their teams, and among the top seeded players are: Moussard Jules (France, 2630), Erdos Viktor (Hungary, 2604), Pechac Jergus (Slovakia, 2597), Moroni Luca Jr (Italy, 2584), Basso Pier Luigi (Italy, 2583), Babula Vlastimil (Czech Republic, 2574).

Italian team with an average rating of 2296 leads the battlefield. The Mitropa Cup is the annual team chess tournament for national teams from Central Europe. The traditional team event this year brings together 10 nations competing against each other in an Open and a Women section on 4 boards each. Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland. The event commenced in 1976 in Innsbruck.
