After four played rounds at the European Individual Chess Championship 2024, GM Frederik Svane (GER, 2654) and GM Maksim Chigaev (ESP, 2604) emerged on the top as the only two players in the tournament with the perfect score of 4/4 points.
GM Frederik Svane (GER, 2654) was victorious today against GM Nikolas Theodorou (GRE, 2612). A balanced game got complicated after Svane sacrificed a pawn, and Theodorou accepted the sacrifice entering a slightly worse position. Pushing for a win, Svane showed great preciseness and used the advantage to score a point.
GM Maksim Chigaev (ESP, 2605) opted for an aggressive approach against GM Matthias Bluebaum (GER, 2654) and achieved a clear advantage from the early phase of the game. Bluebaum tried to defend but eventually blundered a tactical motive and resigned a few moves later.
As many as 18 players follow the leading duo, trialing by half a point: GM Bogdan-Daniel Deac (ROU, 2687), GM Vladimir Fedoseev (SLO, 2712), GM Rauf Mamedov (AZE, 2651), GM Robert Hovhannisyan (ARM, 2613), GM Ivan Cheparinov (BUL, 2632), GM Evgeny Romanov (MKD, 2584), GM Aleksandar Indjic (SRB, 2623), GM Felix Blohberger (AUT, 2536), GM Mahammad Muradli (AZE, 2575), GM Daniel Dardha (BEL, 2606), GM Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus (TUR, 2604), GM Nikita Petrov (MNE, 2590), GM Yahli Sokolovsky (ISR, 2516), GM Marc’Andria Maurizzi (FRA, 2585), GM Rasmus Svane (GER, 2628), GM Aram Hakobyan (ARM, 2623), GM Ediz Gurel (TUR, 2635), and GM Ihor Samunenkov (UKR, 2523).
