FIDE Grand Swiss 2023 starts in the Isle of Man

The 2023 FIDE Grand Swiss and FIDE Women’s Grand Swiss will take place from 25th October to 5th November in Douglas, Isle of Man.

Both events are part of the qualifications for the current World Championship cycle, with the top two players in the open event qualifying for the 2024 Candidates Tournament and the top two players in the Women’s Grand Swiss qualifying for the 2024 Women’s Candidates.

The events will be played in 11 rounds, Swiss System, with 164 players: 114 in the Grand Swiss and 50 players in the Women’s Grand Swiss.

The total prize fund reaches $600,000, with $460,000 for the Open section and $140,000 for the Women’s competition.

The event gathers World’s best players and the top seeds of the Open event are: World No.2 Fabiano Caruana (USA, 2786), World No.4 Hikaru Nakamura (USA, 2780), World No.5 – the Winner of the 2021 FIDE Grand Swiss Alireza Firouzja (FRA, 2777), World No.7 Anish Giri (NED, 2760), World No.8 Gukesh D (IND, 2758), World No.11 Richard Rapport (ROU, 2752), World No.15 Levon Aronian (USA, 2742) and others.

World No.3 Aleksandra Goryachkina (FIDE, 2558) headlines the Women’s tournament, together with World No.7 Alexandra Kosteniuk (SUI, 2523), World No.8 Mariya Muzychuk (UKR, 2519), World No.9 Tan Zhongyi (CHN, 2517), World No.10 Anna Muzychuk (UKR, 2510), World No.12 Polina Shuvalova (FIDE, 2506), World No.13 Harika Dronavalli (IND, 2502) and others.

The Opening ceremony of the event will take place on Tuesday, 24th of October, and the games will kick off with the first round starting on Wednesday, October 25th, at 14:30 (local time).
