The 24th European Youth Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship commenced yesterday in Thessaloniki, Greece, with the participation of more than 450 players from 36 European federations.

The event started with the European Youth Rapid Chess Championship 2025, which is played over six age categories: U8, U10, U12, U14, U16 and U18, open and girls sections separately.

ECU Secretary General Mr. Theodoros Tsorbatzoglou addressed the players and guests at the Opening ceremony, and then played the first ceremonial move with the Vice President of the Ukrainian Chess Federation Mr. Volodymyr Kovalchuk, inaugurating the start of the event.

Five rounds were played during yesterday’s first day of the tournament, and only a few players managed to head into the final Rapid day with the final score. The last four rounds will take place today, and we will soon know the European Youth Rapid Chess Champions for 2025!

All results, rankings and pairings can be found here.

Top-board games of each section can be followed live through the ECU TV platform, together with video broadcast from the playing venue.
