The European Women’s Rapid & Blitz Chess Championships 2024 take place in Monte-Carlo, Monaco, from 9-13 January.
The European Women’s Blitz Chess Championship 2024 is first on the schedule and will be played on Friday, 10th of January, with the participation of 134 players from 28 European federations. The event will be played in 13 rounds, swiss system, with the time control of 3 minutes + 2 seconds, and features the prize fund of 15.200 EUR.
GM Alexandra Kosteniuk (SUI, 2430) is the top-seeded player in the Blitz competition and defends the title. The other top seeds are GM Antoaneta Stefanova (BUL, 2392), IM Ann Matnadze Bujiashvili (ESP, 2379), IM Meri Arabidze (GEO, 2378), IM Dinara Wagner (GER, 2368), IM Sarasadat Khademalsharieh (ESP, 2356) and GM Elisabeth Paehtz (GER, 2355).
The European Women’s Rapid Chess Championship 2024 will be played on 11-12 January in the same venue, with the participation of 148 players. The event will be played in 11 rounds, swiss system, with the time control of 15 minutes + 10 seconds increment. The prize fund of the Rapid championship is 31.300 EUR.
GM Alexandra Kosteniuk (SUI, 2491) defends the title in the Rapid Championship too, and headlines the field as the best-rated player. Among the top-seeded players are also GM Elisabeth Paehtz (GER, 2407), IM Stavroula Tsolakidou (GRE, 2393), GM Antoaneta Stefanova (BUL, 2385), GM Bella Khotenashvili (GEO, 2361), IM Ekaterina Atalik (TUR, 2355), and GM Pia Cramling (SWE, 2354).
