The 2024 European Women’s Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships concluded yesterday in Monte-Carlo, Monaco. The Championships took place from 9-13 January and gathered nearly 150 players coming from 28 European federations.
The first event on the schedule was European Women’s Blitz Chess Championship 2024 which was played on Friday, 10th of January. After 13 played rounds, IM Aleksandra Maltsevskaya (POL, 2324) emerged as the sole Winner of the event, scoring 10.5 points. She was half a point ahead of GM Anna Ushenina (UKR, 2329) and GM Alexandra Kosteniuk (SUI, 2430) who tied for silver medal scoring 10 points each. GM Anna Ushenina had better tiebreaks to clinch silver, and GM Alexandra Kosteniuk won bronze.

European Women’s Rapid Chess Championship 2024 was played on 11-12 January and after 11 played rounds as many as four players tied for gold scoring 8.5 points each: GM Anna Ushenina (UKR, 2348), IM Sarasadat Khademalsharieh (ESP, 2344), IM Yuliia Osmak (UKR, 2306) and IM Eline Roebers (NED, 2332). Having the best tiebreak criteria, GM Anna Ushenina claimed gold and became European Rapid Women’s Chess Champion.

IM Sarasadat Khademalsharieh came second and IM Yuliia Osmak won bronze medal, while IM Eline Roebers finished the event in the fourth place.

The Closing ceremony of the event was attended by the ECU President Mr. Zurab Azmaiparashvili, Tournament Director and ECU Vice President Mr. Jean-Michel Rapaire, ECU Board members and Chief Arbiter of the event Stephane Escafre.
