On Friday August 16th, at the Hotel Dlouhe Strane in Kouty nad Desnou in the Czech Republic, the 17th European Union Youth Chess Championship U8, U10, U12 and U14 had started. European Union Youth Chess Championship 2019 under the patronage of the European Chess Union is organized by the Sachovy klub Svetla nad Sazavou in cooperation with the Czech Chess Federation.
Boys and girls in each category play the same open tournament but will be seperated standings. The rate of play is 90 min for the whole game + 30 sec increment for each move played. There will be 9 rounds, one round per day. This prestigious event attracts many young chess players – this year there will be 96 players from 10 national federations, out of them 65 players are from abroad. The first seeded players in all categories are: in U14 Petr Gnojek (2188, CZE), in U12 Nikola Kanov (2102, ECX), in U10 Vladimir Veverka (1693, CZE), in U8 Gabriel Karaszewski (1493, POL).
For players, parents and all chess fans the organizers provide on-line transmissions for all games! We would like to thank our colleagues from the Slovakian Chess Federation assisting the live coverage. Visitors in Kouty nad Desnou can watch the games also in the projection hall of the Hotel Dlouhe Strane.
All participants may use the leisure time activities offered at the hotel, such as swimming pool, wellness, bowling, billiards and table-tennis. In Velke Losiny (10 km) there is a new aquapark and the new The Sky Walk in Dolni Morava.
