European Team Chess Championship 2021 – R3 report

Three rounds have been already played at the European Team Chess Championship 2021 in Terme Catez, Slovenia.

Only two teams emerged on the top of the Open section with perfect 6 match points: Hungary and Azerbaijan. With a narrow 2.5-1.5 victory in the 3rd round, Hungary defeated better-rated players of France, while Azerbaijan was victorious against the German team with the same 2.5-1.5 result.

Teams of Russia, Spain, Poland, Armenia and Ukraine are the followers with 5 macth points, each.

Hungary – Azerbaijan
Russia – Poland
Ukraine – Spain
Armenia – Germany
France – Turkey

Russia, Georgia, and Armenia scored all three wins to tie for the top in the Women’s tournament. Russians convincingly defeated the team of Germany with the final result of 3.5 – 0.5, Georgia defeated Azerbaijan with a 3-1 score and Armenia won the match against the team of Poland with a final 3-1 result.

With two victories and one draw, Italy is just behind the leaders, scoring 5 match points.

Before the entrance in the playing venue, all the players need to pass the Fair-play control center. Specialized fair-play arbiters check the belongings of players and do random checks after their games.

The battles for the crown of European Team Open and Women Chess Champions continue today with the 4th round, starting from 15:00 CEST.
