EUROPEAN SENIOR CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP R3 REPORT

Games of the third round of European Senior Chess Championships were played yesterday in Yerevan, capital of Armenia.

In 50+ category the top game was between GM Rafayel Vaganyan (ARM 2577) and WGM Galina Strutinskaya (RUS 2237). GM Vaganyan played in a creative manner and sacrificed his bishop, but his opponent showed brilliant defense and game ended in a draw. From the six leaders of 50+ tournament only Evgeni Kalegin took a victory, and after three rounds he solely leads the table. 7 players have 2,5 points.

In 65+ section the most exciting game was between GM Nona Gaprindashvili (GEO 2299) and GM Evgeni Sveshnikov (RUS 2509). The 5th World Women Champion, who is in perfect shape at this tournament had a slight advantage, but the game ended in a draw in 33 moves.

GM Viktor Kupreichik (BLR 2361) and IM Valentin Bogdanov (UKR 2376) won their third consecutive games and are in the lead with the maximum score.
