EUROPEAN SENIOR CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP R3 REPORT

The third round of European Senior Chess Championship 2017 finished yesterday in Sabadell, Spain.

In category for Seniors 50+ all the players with maximum score after second round 2/2 were equal and drew their games. That caused very interesting position on the ranking list after 3rd round, where 10 players are tied with 2.5 points each.

In category for Women 50+ WGM Strutinskaia Galina from Russia defeated Aseeva Marina also from Russia and took the sole leading position with the maximum score of 3 points out of 3 games.

In 65+ section, after winning in second round, the leaders are IM Renman Nils Gustav from Sweden and IM Barle Janez from Slovenia and they will have a direct meeting in the 4th round which starts today at 4pm  (local time).

In the same category 5 women are playing and fighting for the separate prizes and European Women Senior Chess Champion title. The most successful ones are GM Nona Gaprindashvili former World Champion, who is 3rd ranked on the Ranking list with 2.5 points. She is sharing the leading position for ladies with WGM Fatalibekova Elena who has the same score, 2.5 points out of 3 games.

The 17th European Senior Chess Championship takes place in Sabadell, Spain from 11th-21st August and is organized by Spanish Chess Federation and Ione Techno Group under the auspices of European Chess Union.
