The 18th edition of European Senior Chess Championship will take place from 3rd-13th August, in Drammen, Norway.
Till now, 100 players from 18 countries have registered for the event, which will be played in two age categories: 50+ (for players born in 1968 or earlier) and 65+ (for players born in 1953 and earlier).
At the moment, the top seeded player of the 50+ category is Grandmaster Simen Adgestein (NOR, 2581) who has represented his country at the Chess Olympiads for many years, while the top seeders in section 65+ are: GM Leif Ogaard (NOR, 2405), 5 time winners of Norwegian national Championship (1974, 1975, 1979, 1985 and 1993), Ukrainian International master and chess books author, Valentin Bogdanov (UKR, 2356) and European Senior Chess Champion for section 65+ in 2017, IM Nils-Gustaf Renman (SWE, 2343).
Top women player in section 65+ is WGM Elena Fatalibekova (RUS, 2195), three-time winner of the Women’s World Senior Chess Championship (2000, 2001, 2004)and two-time winner of the Women’s European Senior Chess Championship (2007, 2008), while the battlefield in section for women 50+ is led by WIM Annett Wagner Michel (GER, 2119) and WGM Svetlana Mednikova (RUS, 2110).
The Championship will be played in 9 rounds, Swiss system, with time control 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move, starting from move one.
Total prize fund of the event will be 10.000 EUR. Top three players of each category will be awarded with cups and medals.
