The European School Chess Championship finished yesterday in Budva, Montenegro, with the participation of 343 players from over 20 European federations divided in 6 age categories open and girls: U7, U9, U11, U13, U15 and U17.
The Closing Ceremony was attended by the President of European Chess Union Mr. Zurab Azmaiparashvili.
In category Open U17 Trubchaninov Timur (RUS 2181) became the Champion with 6 points out of 7 games. He took the title of European School Champion for the 2nd time, since he won the Championship last year in the same category. Tepe Efe Can (TUR 1974) and Ahadzade Kanan (AZE 1994) tied for the 2nd place with 5 points each, but according to the additional criteria Tepe Efe Can took silver and Ahadzade Kanan took bronze medal.
In Girls U17 category, the first place went to Ayan Bengu Sena (TUR 1788) who finished sole first with 5.5 points out of 7 games. Dursun Poyraz (TUR 1836) finished second with 5 points since she had better tie-breaks than Danilova Rada (RUS 1887) with the same score.
In Open U15 category, 3 players shared the first place all with 6.5 points, but according to the additional criteria, Petriashvili Nikoloz (GEO 2257) finished first, Mehraliyev Sahil (AZE 1769) second and Trubchaninov Artem (RUS 2017) third.
Katkov Michelle (ISR 1751) and Tahirova Sevil (AZE 1682) tied for the first place both with 6.5 points in category for Girls U15, but according to the additional criteria Michelle Katkov took the title of European School Champion and Sevil Tahirova ended second. Third place went to Strukova Ksenia (RUS 1788) with 6 points.
In Open U13 also came to sharing of the first place, but the winner became Zhukov Maksim (RUS 1950), and second Tanriverdi Enes (TUR 2247) with 7 points each. The third place went to Kirilov Dimitry (RUS 1964), also according to the additional criteria, since two players tied for the bronze with 6.5 points.
Duran Esma Doga (TUR 1926) and Abrisqueta Zudaire Leyre (ESP 1605) shared the first place with 6.5 points each, but Duran Esma won the Championship and Abrisqueta took silver medal fpr category for Girls U 13. Third place went to Zhurova Anna (RUS 1841) with 6 points.
Caputcuoglu Zeki Berke (TUR 1704) became the winner of Open U11 category and Silich Yahor (BLR 1783) finished second, both with score of 6.5 points. Vasilyev Aleksey (RUS 1823) took the bronze with 6.5 points since he was better according to the tie-breaks than other two boys who had the same score.
In category for Girls U11, two Russian girls tied for the first place with 7 points, but the first place went to Cherepanova Evita (RUS 1583) and Zavivaeva Emilia (RUS 1593) finished second. The bronze medal went to Aydin Gulenay (TUR 1600) with 6.5 points.
Erten Kerem (TUR 1639) took victory in Open U9 category with 7.5 points and finished sole on the top of the list. Second place went to Dovbnia Nikita (RUS 1438) and third to Medvedev Matey (RUS 1581) who had the same score of 7 points.
Yildiz Elif Zeren (TUR 1204) and Mikhalina Olga (RUS 1234) shared the first place with 7 points each, but Yildiz Elif Zeren finished first and Mikhalina Olga finished second. The third place went to Zavivaeva Evelina (RUS 1338) with 6.5 points.
In the youngest Open category Yonal Timur (RUS 1318) won the Championship thanks to the better tie-breaks and Zverev Lev (RUS 1480) finished second. Both boys had reached 8 points. The third place went to Mammadov Ziya (AZE 1314) who finished the Championship with 6 points.
Girls in the youngest category played Round Robin tournament, and after 9 rounds, Zubkovskaya Ekaterina from Belarus won with 8.5 points. Second place went to Bashirli Saadat from Azerbaijan with 8 points, and the third place came to Ismayilova Khanim (AZE 1266).
Players from Russian federation have dominated on the Championship and won 16 medals in total, 4 golds, 3 silvers and 8 bronze. Turkish players followed them with 5 gold medals, 3 silvers and 1 bronze. Players from Azerbaijan were also successful with 2 second places and 3 bronze medals.
All the winners in each category got trophies and special prizes, 4-7 place got medals and chess gifts, while the organizers also provided 10 special prizes. The Champions of each category are invited to participate the next World School Chess Championship 2018.
The organizers provided many side events for participants and their accompanying persons, such as chess solving competition, excursion programs, sport activities, seminars- FIDE Trainers’ seminar which held from 11 to 13 June, and FIDE Seminar for Chess Arbiters (15th-20th June).
The Championship took place in Budva, Montenegro, from 10th to 20th June in organization of Montenegro Chess Federation under the auspices of European Chess Union.
