European Chess Club Cup 2022 opens in Mayrhofen

The 37th European Chess Club Cup and the 26th European Women’s Chess Club Cup take place from 2nd – 10th October in Mayrhofen, Austria.

The Opening ceremony is scheduled for tonight at 20:00 CEST, while the first round starts tomorrow at 14:00 (local time).

With participation of 87 teams (70 in the Open event and 17 in the Women’s tournament), the 2022 European Club Cup broke the participation record. Almost 600 players from 45 federations will compete for their clubs at the event, including World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen (Offerspill Chess Club), Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Schachclub Viernheim 1934e.V), Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (Asnieres Le Grand Echiquier), Viswanathan Anand (CSU ASE Superbet), and Richard Rapport (CSU ASE Superbet).

The best rated players of the Women’s event are: Mariya Muzychuk (TAJFUN – Sk Ljubljana), Anna Muzychuk (Cercle d’Echecs de Monte-Carlo), Zhansaya Abdumalik (Cercle d’Echecs de Monte-Carlo), Alina Kashlinskaya (KS Gwiazda Bydgoszcz), Elisabeth Paehtz (Cercle d’Echecs de Monte-Carlo), Gunay Mammadzada (Odlar Yurdu), and Pia Cramling (Cercle d’Echecs de Monte-Carlo).

Both tournaments will be played in 7 rounds, swiss system, with time control: 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move, starting from move one. The total prize fund of the events will be 40.000 EUR (25.000 EUR for the Open event and 15.000 EUR for the Women’s event).
