The European Junior Championships shall include the following separate competitions: the European Open -20 Championships and the European Girls – 20 Championships.
T. 1. Participation
T.1.1 Entitled to participate are chess players from the ECU Chess Federations who shall not have reached the age of 20 years, respectively, by January 1st of the year in which the tournament will commence.
T.1.2 The players placed 1-3 in the previous European Youth Championship (open and girls) U18 and European Junior U20 will have the personal right (invited players) to participate in the tournament, if they fulfil the conditions of Art. 1.1. This privilege may be exercised once exclusively in the subsequent year following the year of qualification.
T.1.3 Subject to the agreement with the organizers, each federation shall be entitled to register any number of participants it deems necessary provided the following conditions are met:
(a) payment to ECU of the approved fee (see Annex 2) per player in advance;
(b) payment of the full board and lodge of the additional player(s) to the organizing chess federation.
T.2 . Organization
T.2.1 The competition shall be organized during the 1st semester of the year and shall not clash with other European Youth Championships. In exceptional cases, the Board may accept other dates.
T.2.2. The playing venue(s) shall have enough space to host at least 200 players and the necessary number of arbiters stations. The playing venue(s) shall include at least 2 subsidiary rooms (office-size) for the arbiters’ and anticheating needs.
T.3. Tournament Regulations
T.3.1 Each championship shall be played in 9 rounds according to the Swiss system.
T.3.1.1 If in any sex group there are 11 to 15 participants, only 7 rounds will be played.
T.3.1.2 If in any sex group there are 10 or fewer participants, a round robin tournament will be played.
T.3.2. The tournament may have a free day.
T.4. Titles and Prizes
T.4.1 The organizing federation shall award Gold, Silver and Bronze medals to the players taking the first three places in each Championship.
T.4.2 The organizer should award special prizes to as many participants as possible and publish the list of prizes and the rules for their award before the start of the first round.
T.4.3 The winner of each European Junior Championship shall have the personal right to participate in the World Junior U-20 Championship. This privilege may be exercised exclusively in the same or subsequent year following the qualification.
T.4.4 Direct titles, according to B 0.1 FIDE Direct titles continental U20 regulations:
-Girls section: Gold – WGM norm; 1st equal – WIM title, Silver & Bronze – WIM norm; Silver & Bronze – WFM title.
-Open section: Gold – GM norm; 1st equal – IM title; Silver & Bronze – IM norm; Silver & Bronze – FM title.
-Gold = first after tiebreak; 1st equal = maximum 3 best players after tiebreak; norm = 9 games.
