Magnus Carlsen defends the title of FIDE World Chess Champion

The 2021 FIDE World Chess Championship Match between the challenger Ian Nepomniachtchi and defender Magnus Carlsen, concluded yesterday in Dubai.

The match ended with final result 7.5 – 3.5 in favor of Magnus Carlsen, who won the FIDE World Chess Championship for the 5th consecutive time.

After 5 draws in first 5 games of the match, Carlsen took a lead with a victory in the game 6. After almost 8 hours of play and 136 moves, the game 6 of the 2021 FIDE World Chess Championship match became the longest game ever played at the World Championship matches.

After an important victory for Magnus in the game 6, only five more games were played with 2 draws and 3 decisive results for Carlsen.

Finally, after 11 played games, Magnus Carlsen retained the World Champion title.
