INVITATION FOR BIDS 2019

The European Chess Union is inviting federations to submit bids for the organization of the official European Chess Championships in 2019.

The bids must be submitted exclusively in the Bid form regulated by the ECU (sent in the attachment). For any additional documents delivered separately from the bid form, it must be stated in the bid form what they relate to.

The deadline for bids to reach the European Chess Union office is Friday 28th April 2017, by 4 PM CET. All the bids must reach the European Chess Union office until the deadline in one of the following ways:

  1. By e-mail ecuoffice2014@gmail.com
  2. Personally, in a sealed envelope, in the ECU office in Tbilisi.
  3. By postal service or express postal service (DHL, Fedex, TNT…) to the address: European Chess Union, Kostava Str. 37a, Chess Palace, 0179 Tbilisi, Georgia.

Bids for organizing ECU competitions have to be sent by the organizing chess federation.

The bidding procedure is open for the following competitions in 2019:

  1. European Individual Championship  (estimated number of players: 300)
  2. European Club Cup (estimated number of players: 360 – 60 teams)
  3. European Club Cup for Women Cup (estimated number of players: 80 – 20 teams)
  4. European Senior Individual Championship Cup (estimated number of players: 200)
  5. European Senior Team Championship (estimated number of players: 200 – 50 teams)
  6. European Youth Team Championship (estimated number of players: 120 – 30 teams)
  7. European Rapid & Blitz Championship (estimated number of players: 700)
  8. European Women’s Rapid & Blitz Championship (estimated number of players: 100)
  9. European School Championship (estimated number of players: 400)
  10. European Youth Rapid and Blitz Championships (estimated number of players: 300)
  11. European Amateur Championship (estimated number of players: 200)

We would like to remind you that, according to the bid procedure, a bid will only be taken into account if the federation concerned has paid a bid fee according to ECU Tournament regulations (Annex 3: Bid Fees and Deposit Fees)  to the account of the European Chess Union within one week after the deadline. The deadline for the payment of a bid fee is Friday 5 May, 2017.

In addition, a part of the Bid procedure, which states, “until the decision on the award, the bids may not be changed” will be fully respected. Therefore, any document which reaches the ECU office after 28th April 2017 4 PM CET will not be taken into consideration.

We note the necessary capacity of the playing hall according the ECU Tournament regulations. The total space is calculated according the estimated number of participants of each event. Each Championship shall be played in the same hall. Divided playing halls will be evaluated with less points by the inspectors.

The minimum size of a tournament hall shall foresee 3 m2 per board and additionally 40% space for player’s and spectator’s corridors, 25% for youth tournaments. The distance between the chess boards and the spectators should be not less than one meter.
