European Youth Team Chess Championship 2023 started in Iasi, Romania

The European Youth Team Chess Championship 2023 opened yesterday in Iasi, Romania. The opening ceremony of the event took place shortly before the start of the first round, with the attendance of the ECU Treasurer Ion-Serban Dobronauteanu, the Vice President of the Romanian Chess Federation Alin Berescu, the Secretary General of the Romanian Chess Federation Gabriel Grecescu, Tournament Director Elena Cristian and the Chief Arbiter of the event Dinu-Ioan Nicula.

The event is played in two age categories: U12 and U18, open and girls sections separately, and gathers more than 170 children who represent 53 teams coming from 13 European federations. Each team in the Open sections comprises four players and one reserve, and the teams in the girls’ competitions are composed of two players and one reserve.

The Championships are played in 7 rounds, in swiss system, with a time control of 90 min. + 30 sec. increment for every move played starting from move 1. The playing venue of the event is the Conference Hall of the Unirea Hotel in Iasi, Romania.
