The European Women’s Chess Championship 2024 starts this Friday in Rhodes, Greece. The event will take place from 18-30 April at the 5***** “Rodos Palace” Conference Hotel, and officially kicks off with the Opening ceremony and first round which are scheduled for April 19th.
The tournament gathers 183 players coming from 35 European federations and it will be the largest European Women’s Championship ever. A very strong line-up is headlined by IM Yuliia Osmak (UKR, 2459), IM Marsel Efroimski (ISR, 2457), GM Bella Khotenashvili (GEO, 2454), IM Dinara Wagner (GER, 2453), GM Antoaneta Stefanova (BUL, 2447), IM Lela Javakhishvili (GEO, 2446), GM Nino Batsiashvili (GEO, 2445), IM Gunay Mammadzada (AZE, 2436), GM Monika Socko (POL, 2428) and IM Stavroula Tsolakidou (GRE, 2424).

The event is played in 10 rounds, swiss system, with the time control of 90 minutes for 40 moves + 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds for every move starting from move 1.
The European Individual Women’s Chess Championship 2024 is a qualification event for the FIDE Women’s World Cup. According to the decision of the European Chess Union, at least 10 players will qualify*. (*Under the current FIDE Women’s World Cup regulations, FIDE is the only body responsible for rules of FIDE Women’s World Cup qualification spots.)
The total prize fund of the Championship is 60.000 EUR with 10.000 EUR reserved for the Winner of the event.
