The European Senior Team Chess Championship 2026 is underway from 26 August – 5 September at the Hotel Royal Belvedere in Hersonissos, Crete, Greece. The event reached its halfway mark following the completion of five rounds.
The event gathers 32 teams represented by 150 players competing in two age categories: 50+ and 65+. Each tournament will be played in 9 rounds, swiss system, with the classical time control, and each field includes legendary Grandmasters.
In the 50+ section, the top seeded teams England 1 and Italy tie for the top scoring 9 match points each, while Netherlands closely follows with the score of 8 match points.
The top seeds of the 65+ section are on the top of the leaderboard after five rounds, as Slovenia and England score 8 match points each to tie for the top, while Italy scores 7 match points.
