Montenegro Chess Federation under the auspices of European Chess Union organizes European School Chess Championship 2017 which will take place in Budva, Montenegro from June 10 (arrival day) to June 20 (departure day).
Boys and girls will be competing separately in 6 different age categories: Under 7, Under 9, Under 11, Under 13 and Under 15. In case that one or more girl groups have less than 10 participants, the group will be merged with the same Open age group category.
The championship will be played according to the Swiss System in 9 rounds, with time control of 90 minutes for 40 moves, plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from the move one. Default time will be 15 minutes for each round.
So far, 347 boys and girls coming from 18 federations are registered for the Championship. They will be fighting for general and special prizes which will be provided for each category. The Winners of each category will become European School Chess Champions for 2017, and the first 6 players will be invited to participate the next World School Chess Championship 2018. Besides the trophies, medals and special diplomas, first seven places will be awarded with special gifts.
The organizers provided many side events for participants and their accompany persons, such as chess solving competition, excursion programs, sport activities, seminars- FIDE Trainers’ seminar (11th-13th June) and FIDE Seminar for Chess Arbiters (15th-20th June).
Participants of European School Chess Championship will have a possibility to stay and participate in European Youth Rapid&Blitz Chess Championship 2017 since it will be held right after the Schools Competition (19th-23rd June) at the same place.
Both tournaments will be held in a beautiful hotel resort “Slovenska Plaza” which is the official tournament hotel.
