Six rounds have been played at the European Individual Chess Championship 2024 and the event reached its midway point.
GM Aleksandar Indjic (SRB, 2623) heads to tournament’s only free day as the sole leader of the event with the score of 5.5 points. Indjic defeated GM Maksim Chigaev (ESP, 2605) yesterday after a very interesting but solid game. The position was equal until Chigaev’s mistake 35…Bd5? when the Serbian representative gained a significant advantage and stalemated his opponent’s pieces in an endgame with two pawns up. Scoring a point, Indjic secured himself the sole lead in the tournament with only five rounds to go.
As many as eight players tie for second place scoring 5 points each: GM Robert Hovhannisyan (ARM, 2613), GM Frederik Svane (GER, 2654), GM Ivan Cheparinov (BUL, 2632), GM Vladimir Fedoseev (SLO, 2712), GM Daniel Dardha (BEL, 2606), GM Alexander Donchenko (GER, 2617), GM Alexander Motylev (ROU, 2577), and GM Manuel Petrosian (ARM, 2612).
Today is the free day and the event continues tomorrow with the 7th round starting at 15:00 CET. Live games and video broadcast with commentaries by GM Alojzije Jankovic and WIM Sandra Djukic can be followed through the ECU TV page or ECU YouTube channel.
