45th Chess Olympiad is halfway through

Six rounds have been played at the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary, and India emerged as the sole leader of both sections scoring perfect 12/12 match points.

Indian team in the Open section scored a convincing 3-1 win over Hungary yesterday, to head into today’s free day as the sole leader of the event. Vietnam, China, and Iran are following with the score of 11 match points, while as many as 10 teams score 10 match points.

Taking a narrow 5th round victory over Armenia, Indian Women’s team secured the sole lead of the Women’s competition, and they are followed by Georgia and Poland that score 11 match points each. Going into the second half of the event, nine teams score 10 match points each.

Tomorrow’s 7th round brings interesting encounters between the leaders and the top board pairings are:
