EUROPEAN YOUTH RAPID&BLITZ CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP 2018 CONCLUDED

European Youth Rapid&Blitz Chess Championship 2018 took place from 31st June-5th August in Oradea, Romania, with participation of almost 300 players from around 20 European federations who competed in different sections of 4 events.

The event opened with European Rapid Individual Youth Chess Championship which was played in 6 age categories (open and girls separately): U8, U10, U12, U14, U16 and U18, on 1st and 2nd of August. After 9 rounds played in each category 12 players achieved the title of European Youth Rapid Champion. The Winners are:

Open U8– 1. Usov Aleksandr E. (RUS, 1654) 7.5 points, 2. Cruceru-Uceanu Tudor-Mihai (ROU, 1302) 7 points, 3. Karvatskyi Oleksii (UKR, 1501) 6.5 points

After the end of the Rapid Individual Championship, the European Championship in solving problems took place in the afternoon on 3rd of August. The event was hold in 3 age categories (boys and girls separately): U10, U14 and U18. Depending on time and number of correctly solved chess problems, 6 players were crowned as winners of following sections:

Girls U10: 1. Shukhman Anna (RUS), 2. Samson Maria (ROU), 3. Maria Lia-Alexandra

Girls U14: 1. Ciolacu Alessia- Mihaela (ROU), 2. Ojog Felicia (MDA), 3. Wikar Martyna (POL)

European Teams Rapid Chess Championship took place on 3rd August with participation of 70 teams composed of four players from the same federation. The event was played in 7 rounds in two age categories, open and girls sections separately, U12 and U18 and the Winners became:

Girls U12: 1. Russia A, 2. Russia B, 3. Romania Verde

Girls U18: 1. Slovenia B, 2. Slovenia A, 3. Poland

Open U12: 1. Belarus B, 2. Belarus A, 3. Romania Rosu

European Youth Blitz Chess Championship 2018 was played on the last day of the event, 4th of August. The Championship was played in 3 age categories, boys and girls separately: U10, U14 and U18. After 9 rounds in each category, the winners were:

The organizers provided the live transmission of the top boards of each competition. The pgn files of each round can be downloaded from the official website of the Championship.

Top 3 ranked players of each category were awarded with cups and medals, together with special chess prizes and gifts.

Besides the chess activities, ECU and FIDE seminars for trainers and for chess in schools were organized during the championship.
