EUROPEAN YOUTH CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP 2019 STARTS
European Youth Chess Championship 2019, with the participation of 1347 players coming from 47 European federations, starts in two days and will take place from 1st (arrival) to 11th August (departure) in Bratislava, Slovakia. The 1347 registered players, if confirmed by the 1st round, set a new record of participation since the previous highest number of participants was made by the neighbour city of Prague in 2016. Tomorrow is the official arrival day, and the event opens on Friday 2nd August, at 14:00, one hour before the start of the first round. The event is played in 6 age categories in open and girls sections: U8, U10, U12, U14, U16, U18 and GU8, GU10, GU12, GU14, GU16 and GU18.
The championship is played in 9 rounds Swiss system in accordance with the ECU Tournament Rules and FIDE Rules of Chess. The time rate will be 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move, starting from move one. The playing venue of the event will be Incheba Expo Bratislava.
The first three players in each group will be awarded medals; the first five players in each group will be awarded cups, diplomas, and special prizes.
Simultaneously with the event, ECU School Chess Teacher course, seminars for FIDE trainers, FIDE arbiters will be held during the championship. ECU School Chess Teacher Training course will take place from 7th-8th August and all the details can be found here.
