EUROPEAN TEAM CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP STARTS IN REYKJAVIK

The European Team Chess Championship starts tomorrow in Reykjavik, Iceland!

36 teams compete in the Open Championship and 30 teams in the Women Championship!

The official venue is the Reykjavik’s Laugardalshöll arena, which was the playing hall of the Match of Century in 1972, between Fischer and Spassky.

The Championship will be played according to the Swiss System in 9 rounds, with one open section and one section for the women’s teams, The time control will be 90 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game + 30 second increment for every move played, starting from move one.

The total prize fund is 20.000 EUR, with 5.000 EUR first prize in both sections.

The Captains’ meeting took place at Laugardalshöll at 21:00 yesterday. Captains of all the teams attended the meeting, as well as the Chief Arbiter IA Omar Salama, Tournament Director Mr. Gunnar Bjornsson and ECU President Mr. Zurab Azmaiparashvili.

Everything is set for the big start of the Championship. The playing hall is ready and the technical staff is finalizing the preparations.
