EUROPEAN SENIOR & EUROPEAN AMATEUR CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2019 START

European Senior Chess Championship 2019 and European Amateur Chess Championship 2019 simultaneously take place from 5th to 15th of April in Rhodes, Greece.

European Amateur Chess Championship 2019 will be played in three rating categories: U1700, U2000 and U2300. 80 players coming from around 15 European federations will participate in the event. The Championships will be played in 9 rounds, with time control: 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30minutes for the rest of the game, with an increment of 30 seconds per move, starting from move one. The total prize fund of the event is 4.000 EUR.

European Senior Chess Championship 2019 will be played in two age categories: 50+ and 65+, open and women’s separately with a total of 130 players. 42 players coming from 17 federations will participate in 50+ open category. Top seeders are GM Sturua Zurab (GEO, 2531), GM Danielsen Henrik (ISL, 2499), GM Pavlovic Milos (SRB, 2492), GM Arkell Keith C (ENG, 2467) and IM Bruno Fabio (ITA, 2433).

68 players representing 22 European federations participate in section Open 65+. The line-up is led by: GM Balashov Yuri S (RUS, 2470), IM Kalegin Evgenij (RUS, 2424), IM Chevelevitch Evgueni Dr (GER, 2416), GM Kristiansen Jens (DEN, 2375) and IM Birnboim Nathan (ISR, 2363).

Women players in both 50+ and 65+ sections will be playing 9 rounds Robin round event since in both categories there are 10 registered participants. The line-up of Women’s 65+ category is fulfilled with top-seeded Nona Gaprindashvili (GEO, 2294), former World Chess Champion.

The first round of the events will take place tomorrow at 15.00 (local time). The live transmission of the top boards will be available through the official website of the Championship. The events will be held in the Conference center of Olympic Palace Hotel, as the official hotel of the Championship.
