The European Amateur Chess Championship 2018 starts in two days and will be played from 14th-21st June, in Niksic, Montenegro. Montenegro Chess Federation has announced at the Press conference that the European Amateur Chess Championship 2018 will participate more than 180 players, from 18 countries which is a new event record.
The event which will be played in hotel Onogost, the official venue and hotel of the Championship, will be held in 4 groups: Under-1700, Under-2000 and Under-2300, while the women will play separately only in Under 1700 rating group. In each other rating section, women event will be merged with the open section.
52 players from 11 different European federations registered for the strongest section of the event, U2300, and the battlefield is led by Olcum Ahmet (TUR, 2281), Lestyan Ervin-Iosif (ROU, 2262) and Djukanovic Sreten (MNE, 2254). Section U2000 will participate 52 players from 10 federations, while 55 players from 8 federations will compete in the Open U1700 section and 28 players from 5 federations will compete for title of European Amateur Women U1700 Chess Championship 2018.
The Championship will be played in 9 rounds, Swiss system, with time control 90 minutes for 40 moves+ 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with an increment of 30 seconds per move, starting from the move one.
The total prize fund of the event is 5.000 EUR. Top three players of the each category will be awarded with cups and medals, while Women players will be awarded separately. The Winners of the event will receive the title of the European Amateur Chess Champion for 2018 for the category the player participated.
