European Amateur Chess Championship 2017 which will take place in Nis, Serbia, from 9th-17th June starts tomorrow.
The championship has three different FIDE rating categories: 0-1699, 1700-1999 and 2000-2299 with the total prize fund of 3.000 EUR. Separated women’s championship will be organized for every category only if there are registered at least 10 women in each category, otherwise women’s competition will be merged with men’s category. Money prizes, as well as cups and medals, will be awarded for the first 3 places in each category. Winners of each category will be provided with free accommodation for the next World Amateur Chess Championship 2018 under the condition they don’t reach or exceed rating 2300 by the registration deadline.
The championship will be played according to the Swiss system in 9 rounds, with time control 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with increment of 30 seconds per move starting from the move one.
For the time being, 124 players coming from 17 federations registered for the Championship. The exact number of participants will be known after the confirmation of registrations, which will be held on 10th June from 10am-12am. Opening ceremony will be held just before the first round on the same day at 4pm. The organizer will provide live transmission for 16 games which can be followed on the Official Website of the Championship, or through the ECU website, section LIVE.
Playing Hall is located in Congress Hall of the official tournament hotel “Tami Residence”, where players are going to be accommodated.
The Championship is organized by the Chess Federation of City of Nis in association with Serbian Chess Federation under the auspices of the European Chess Union.
