Communique of the ECU Board Meeting – CL No1/2024

Dear Chess Friends,

The first quarterly meeting of the ECU Board was held through teleconference, on January 21.

Main information and Decisions:

  1. The Board unanimously approved the Bulgarian Sports Chess federation as a provisional member of the European Chess Union. The final decision regarding the membership will be forwarded to the General Assembly 2024. Bulgarian Sports Chess Federation according to the ECU Statutes, shall carry the equivalent rights and obligations to membership apart from the right to vote at the Assembly.
  2. ECU Board, after authorization by the ECU General Assembly 2023, approved  the new  rules for Fair Play and Safe Play Policy. The rules are effective from 1st January 2024.
  3. Following the approved amendments by the ECU General Assembly 2023, the ECU Rulebook approved. The rules are effective from 1st January 2024.
  4. The provisional Closing for the year 2023 was approved. As was reported and in the ECU General Assembly 2023 the annual accounts are returning to positive results. 
  5. The proposed budget of each ECU Commission was discussed and approved. The ECU Board notes the significant development of Commissions activities and initiatives.
  6. The European Individual Chess Championship 2024 is awarded to the Montenegro Chess Federation to be held in Herceg Novi from 7 to 20 November 2024.
  7. The regulations and the official invitation for the European Youth Chess Championship 2024 in Prague, Czech Republic are approved and published.
  8. The ECU Board decided to modify and include a day off to the tournament schedule for the 2024 European Women’s Chess Championship in Rhodes, Greece without changing the announced dates (18-30 April). The tournament will be played in 10 rounds this year, with a day off after the 5th round. There are no changes to the announced dates.
