Circular Letter No. 10/2007
Dear Friends,
The European Individual Championship 2008 will be held in Plovdiv/Bulgaria from 20 April to 4 May. Attached you will find the official announcement. Please note that late registrations will be charged with an extra fee of 100 ? per player.
The ECU General Assembly in Heraklion has changed the general Tournament Regulations concerning the entry fees. Unless stated otherwise in the letter of invitation, the entry fees stipulated in the ECU financial regulations now have to be paid by the federations before or at the start of the competition. If the entry fee is not paid until the end of round 2 these participants or teams will not be paired in subsequent rounds. As there are still some federations that have not yet paid all their debts we would like to remind you that the ECU Board can exclude them from ECU events. We urgently ask those federations being in arrears to contact either the ECU Treasurer or our office by the end of February 2008 in order to find a solution how to settle the financial issues.
The Olympic and sporting movement is delighted by the new article 124 a) of the European Union reform treaty which reflects a demand previously expressed on many occasions by the IOC and a lot of international sports federations including the European Chess Union. The European Union now shall contribute to the promotion of European sporting issues while taking account of its specific nature, its structures based on voluntary activity and social and educational function. This means that sport will have a more important role in the European Union than before. Attached you will find a revised discussion paper regarding a structured dialogue with sport stake holders. This paper might be important for the meeting with the European Union Sports Ministers and Presidents of national Olympic committees in Brdo/Slovenia from 13 to 15 March 2008.
