"Chess is a meritocracy"

European Arbiters’ family suffered a heavy and irreversible loss. At the bloom of his life untimely passed away well known arbiter, high level specialist and pedagogue, FIDE Lecturer, whilom ECU Tournament Director, International Organizer and “A” Category International Arbiter  Dr. Dirk De Ridder.

Dirk de Ridder 5

It is difficult to suppose that our friend is not with us anymore. For many years he has successfully worked in numerous World and European Championships, FIDE Arbiters and Rules Commissions. Dirk was Chief Arbiter of European different championships. His presence was a guarantee not only for the organization of the tournament in high level and for making adequate decisions, but also for a good and friendly atmosphere. He was an experienced FIDE Lecturer and many arbiters developed their knowledge by participating in the seminars held by Dirk. For many years, Dirk de Ridder served also as the ECU Tournament Director.

It is very pity that you are no longer with us. We will miss your smile a lot, our good friend. Rest in Peace.

Ashot Vardapetyan
